Photo London 2025

McKenzie & Hamilton

West Wing – Stand W10

14th – 18th May 2025
Somerset House, London

We are pleased to announce that the work of Britain’s most important post war photographer, Joseph McKenzie, will be on display at Photo London in May. Along with several readily recognisable works we will also be showing earlier work from when he introduced and taught photography at St Martins School of Art in London.

As a Photo London exclusive, we will be revealing colour work taken and developed personally by Joseph McKenzie but never printed.

We shall also be showing and offering one of Joseph McKenzie’s most iconic works titled ‘Beatle Girl’. The photograph was produced by Joseph McKenzie as part of his study Glasgow Gorbals Children, a study taken between 1964 and 1965. The photograph combines portraiture along with the iconic pop fashion of the period and in particular featuring portraits of the four members of the world renowned pop band The Beatles.

We are pleased to have sourced a very rare original and period ‘The Beatles Dress’ as worn in the image and have had this framed specially for Photo London and is being offered alongside and original Joseph McKenzie print.

We are also pleased to announce our collaboration with Alexander Hamilton. Alexander Hamilton has dedicated his life to one of the earliest photographic processes and brought it into the world of contemporary art. Through a lifetime of study and commitment he has mastered the cyanotype process to combine this with his passion and engagement with nature. Examples of his work will also be on display.

The collaboration brings together these two important photographers combining their work to show that Scotland’s long tradition and contribution to the evolution of photography lives on.
