Photo London 14th - 18th May 2025
McKenzie & Hamilton, a collaboration between The Joseph McKenzie Archive and Alexander Hamilton was well received at Photo London in May 2025.
The combination and display of work was commended by the vetting committee for its unique style and curation and was also greatly admired by the visiting public. The display combined early black and white London work, platinum fashion prints along with work from many key humanist studies produced by Joseph McKenzie whilst teaching in Scotland. Previously unprinted stunning colour fashion work produced in London was displayed for the first time. An original ‘Beatle Dress’ dating from 1964 and sourced from a collection in California specially for Photo London was displayed alongside McKenzie’s iconic image Beatle Girl from his Glasgow Gorbals Children study taken in the years 1964/65. A truly unique combination for any collector!
Hung amidst the Joseph McKenzie work were unique framed Cyanotypeprints by renowned Scottish based artist Alexander Hamilton. These stunning workswith a distinct blue ground were created over a ten-year period between 1989and 1999. They are created from Plant Fragments and the quality is reflectiveof the commitment by Alexander in perfecting his craft over 50 years making himone of the most recognised artists of this medium.
The stand was a wonderful tribute to two of the greatestartists in the world within their respective fields and a fitting launch for theirinaugural appearance at Photo London.
